The short version

O Horatio collects nothing. There is no O Horatio server, no account, no analytics and no tracking. Your recordings and transcripts are files on your own device — Mac, iPad or iPhone — and by default nothing is sent anywhere.

What stays on your device

• Audio. Recordings are written to the app's own Documents folder — ~/Documents/Horatio/ on a Mac, the app's container on an iPad or iPhone — and never leave the device under any configuration.
• Transcripts and sessions. Saved where you choose to save them.
• Your glossary. A plain text file in the same folder.
• API keys. Stored in the system Keychain, never in preferences files, and never transmitted anywhere except to the provider they belong to.

The one case where text leaves your device

The fair copy, concept extraction and translation run locally by default. If you choose a remote provider in Settings — OpenAI, DeepSeek, or a custom endpoint — then transcript text is sent to that provider so it can be edited. The app states this in the settings pane before you enter a key.

Audio is never sent, only text. What that provider does with it is governed by their policy, not this one. To keep everything local, leave the built-in model selected — it is the default — or switch the fair copy off.

Network connections O Horatio makes

• Downloading transcription models, from Hugging Face or a URL you supply.
• Downloading speaker-detection models on first use.
• Your chosen language-model provider — local or remote.
• The App Store, for purchase and restore. Apple handles that; O Horatio never sees your payment details.

O Horatio makes no other connections. It does not phone home, check for updates, or report usage.

Children

O Horatio is a professional tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Material changes will be noted on this page.
